Kurrawa Surf Club Sod Turning Event

The world-class facility will see an iconic community based building that will become the jewel in the crown of a revitalized Broadbeach area. The new facility will house the Supporters Club and Surf Club with completion due late 2017 in readiness for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Kurrawa Surf Club Building Committee has worked closely with Hospitality design and construction experts, Paynter Dixon, to execute and manage the project along with selecting and evaluating architectural design that will best suit the Broadbeach precinct now and into the future.

The award winning architectural firm Arkhefield has been awarded the project based on their ability to embody the spirit of the Club and its unique location combined with their philosophy of creating spaces that make a positive contribution to the fabric of society.

Cr Taylor said it is an exciting time for the Broadbeach area.

“We are seeing a surge in investment in the precinct that is revitalising the area. The new Surf Club will not only more adequately meet the needs of the Surf Club in their lifesaving duties, it will provide a family friendly establishment with multi-million dollar views that both residents and visitors can enjoy.’

Surf Club President, Michael Mc Sweeney said he is delighted to attend the Sod turning event as its marks another terrific milestone in the history of the club.

“The Broadbeach precinct is a key destination for residents and visitors to the Gold Coast and we can now be confident that Kurrawa Surf Club will continue to play a key role in providing a quality hospitality venue for its guests as well as continuing our long and rewarding history as a successful Surf Life Saving Club in a state-of-the-art facility,’ he said.

We believe we have achieved this.”

The new building will be located just metres South of the current Club and will boast a sports bar, events lawn, restaurant, gaming and under-ground storage rooms and more.

When completed in late 2017, the new building will house Surf Club operations including increased on-site storage capacity for surf lifesaving equipment and vehicles, ease of access to the beach, training and recreation rooms for Nippers and Senior Life Savers, an expansive dining lounge and bar with 230 degree views of Kurrawa Beach. There will also be a perfectly placed ground floor cafe that will spill out into a spacious public undercover forecourt area where Oceanway and parkland joggers, cyclists and families can stop off for a coffee and a bite to eat. Demolition of the current Club will commence within 90 days of the newly built Club commencing trade.
