Pimlico TAFE on schedule as apprentices flourish
The multimillion-dollar upgrade of the Pimlico TAFE campus is expected to welcome students in January 2020 as scheduled, despite delays caused by the floods.
Training and Skills Minister Shannon Fentiman, who visited the site yesterday, said the project was the largest capital works project in her portfolio in the last two years.
Site manager Andrew Law, from Paynters, said the overall construction will be finished by November, with 2600sq m of roof set to be installed starting Monday.
“We’ve got a pretty tight program but we’re confident we can get it done,” he said.
Mr Law said about 50 or 60 tradespeople were working on site but this was likely to rise in coming weeks to about 80.
The redeveloped campus will accommodate up to 900 full-time students and support an estimated growth in student numbers of 20 per cent over time.
The project will also focus on modernising learning areas and equipment for students studying nursing, hospitality, hair and beauty and visual arts.
