Construction of a new two storey Teaching and Learning facility for TAFE Queensland will begin shortly with Paynters awarded the contract earlier this week. Today, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, the Hon Coralee O’Rourke, Tafe Qld General Manager, Ian Smythe & Paynters team members Joe Watkins & Matt Shea were at the Pimlico campus, turning sod & kicking off the much-anticipated project.

The new works adjacent the existing D Block building will include internal spaces such as Clinical Wards, General and Flexible Learning areas; Hospitality Kitchen and Bar areas; Hair and Beauty; IT Lab; Library Resource Centre; and Student Breakout areas. The building is embellished with feature façade treatments along with integrated hard and soft landscaping.

It comes after the State Government unveiled its vision for a multimillion-dollar upgrade to the TAFE back in June. The Townsville TAFE Campus was well and truly ready for a makeover, with the last new building built 40 years ago.

Paynters North Queensland Manager, Michael Koen said “This major project will provide new facilities that are vitally important to enabling TAFE to deliver training for students in Townsville. The project will also provide a much-needed boost to the North Queensland economy through the employment of local subcontractors”. “We look forward to working with the State Government in support of The Advancing Our Training Infrastructure program. said Mr Koen
