Salem Aged Care is bringing back the 60’s!

The Paynters design team, in consultation with Lutheran Services and the Salem Residential Aged Care Community stakeholder group, have a plan to deck out the existing facility with an internal refurbishment themed on the 1960’s and 1970’s.

The concept was developed with Lutheran Services stakeholders during the strategic planning exercise conducted by Paynters during 2019 in Toowoomba. The overarching aim of the Salem revitalisation project is to revamp the internal decor within the facility as well as take the opportunity to provide better access to outdoor areas for residents and staff.

Lutheran Services and Salem residents provided a design brief to have fun and embrace the era of the existing building (circa 1960’s), think outside the safe ‘aged care’ norms with colours and textures, and provide a marketable point of difference in Toowoomba for aged care living.

The eclectic design includes within the full scope a ‘ROMEO’* bar, tearoom (café), resident dining room and sitting areas, and encompasses the swinging 60’s using saturated colours, textured wall papers, vivid patterns and finishes.

Residents and staff are jazzed as building works commence on site. Outta Sight!

* ‘ROMEO’ is an acronym for ‘Really Old Men Eating Out’.
