Delivered by Paynters under design and construct contract, the Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Complex is a state-of-the-art sporting precinct, which opened its doors to the public in March 2019.

The Complex (located at the CQ University campus at Ooralea), includes a 50m ten-lane heated competition pool, a synthetic athletics track with field event areas and an internal sports field, a 25m six-lane heated lap pool with hard shade cover, a 15m learn-to-swim pool and an athletics building which encompasses a storage shed and change facilities. Paynters working closely with key stakeholders to overcome project challenges faced due to the unpredictable NQ climate. Weather delays were managed by mutual agreement, with Paynters arranging a staged handover in order to minimize any adverse impact on the client, the facility operator and the general public.

The result was a major community driven project, delivered on time, within budget. The complex will assist in hosting national, state and local sporting competitions and will boost tourism, development and liveability in the region. Paynters were proud to partner with the Mackay Regional Council to deliver this tremendous asset to the North Queensland community.
