Springfield State High School, Springfield

The Springfield State High School project comprised a state of the art Performing Arts facility and a new four level Senior Learning Centre. The Performing Arts Centre (PAC) was a fully documented project that had to be constructed within a very tight timeframe.

A Tilt Panel and Structural Steelwork framed structure was designed and then constructed on-site. This required careful management on-site as space was limited for casting tilt panels and erecting into position. External cladding consisted of prefinished metal roof and wall cladding and Danpalon feature panels that were various colours to showcase the new facility.

Paynters proposed an alternative design for the Senior Learning Centre as part of its D and C tender submission that was accepted by the Client (DET). The alternative design provided a better value proposition for the client than the original design, in particular cross flow ventilation to all general learning areas (GLAs) and better access on each floor. Some of the benefits of the teams new design for the Senior Learning Centre included; better functional relationship between teaching and learning spaces, centralised comms room, landscaped zone to undercroft. The new design is more environmentally sustainable, and will minimise operational costs such as power consumption as a result of the design principles incorporated into the building.

Paynters high level of communication with the client and school community ensured the existing school facilities remained fully operational at all times, without hindering the construction program.

It was a challenging project for the Company to deliver, with both facilities being constructed concurrently on constrained sites with access and materials handling issues that had to be overcome during the construction of the two buildings. This outstanding project has provided more learning spaces and a creative hub for both the school and the local community.
